Why Use MakerBot ABS-R with RapidRinse Tap Soluble Support Material?
ABS, Finally as Easy as PLA
ABS is one of the most in-demand yet difficult materials to 3D print. METHOD X patented VECT™ 110 technology combined with proprietary RapidRinse™ support delivers incomparable ABS parts with unprecedented ease.
- METHOD’s technology makes ABS printing so easy that even a 3D printing beginner can do it.
- Stop sacrificing functionality and accuracy for print success. You can have both.
- This is the ONLY heated chamber desktop 3D printer capable of printing Real ABS and eliminating any post processing equipment needs.
Tap Water Soluble
Forget the cumbersome wash tanks and chemicals - RapidRinse™ dissolves in pure tap water so it’s easy to use in just about any environment.
- No ongoing detergent usage and disposal making your life easier and lowering total cost of ownership.
- With no post processing detergents needed and an optional Clean Air HEPA Filtration System, the full ABS workflow is now suited for any environment.
- No washtank required means a savings of $3500 in upfront cost.
Dissolves in Minutes
You don’t have time to wait around while your print dissolves, so we’ve engineered RapidRinse™ to dissolve faster than PVA and competitive hightemp dissolvable support materials. There’s really nothing that comes close.
- Post processing now rivals the speed of breakaway without geometrical restrictions or sore fingers.
- With no equipment needed to dissolve supports, post processing is now decentralized so that anyone can do it.
- Jams, curling, and warping all plague competitive desktop ABS workflows, limiting how often you will even complete a print. It will most likely take multiple attempts to even get to post processing.

Frequently Asked Questions
To dissolve RapidRinse from a part all you need is a bucket of water. Heat and agitation are
not required but can speed up the process.
MakerBot recommends the following safety equipment for any soluble support removal
process:
- Waterproof and chemical resistant safety gloves
- Splash resistant safety goggles
- Stainless steel tongs to remove parts from the water tank
- Stainless steel strainer to remove smaller parts from the water tank
A waste water profile for RapidRinse is available through MakerBot Support.
Check your local, state, and/or international regulatory statutes for what is acceptable for disposal.
MakerBot recommends that disposal procedures be verified by the proper authorities in your region.
MakerBot cannot anticipate local, state, or international regulatory statutes. MakerBot cannot be held liable if
the solution is not handled and disposed of properly. You may need to document how you dispose of the
used solution.
Cool Trick:
With just Epsom salts, you can remove the solids from your RapidRinse solution. Full process details available through MakerBot Support.
Yes! For some applications, you will still benefit from using MakerBot SR-30 filament. Some examples include:
- Those users who will be predominantly using MakerBot ASA, PC-ABS, or PC-ABS FR. These high temp materials will not be compatible with RapidRinse and will require SR-30 to use a soluble support.
- Those who are going to be heavily using high temperature 3rd party materials like ABS, ASA, PC-ABS, and PC. RapidRinse only works with ABS-R so these 3rd party options will require SR-30 for complex geometries.
Heat and agitation will speed up your RapidRinse dissolution. You could continue to use the washtank with no Ecoworks if you want to minimize your post processing time.
RapidRinse and ABS-R have improved adhesion to the build plate and print at a slightly
higher temperature than ABS and SR-30. This results in faster build plate wear. This can
lead to some curling around the edges of prints when the BuildTak is wearing out.
MakerBot recommends moving parts around to different sections of the build plate to extend
the life of your build surface. We have also included additional replacement build sheets with
ABS-R and RapidRinse bundles to ensure our customers have everything they need to
successfully print in ABS-R with RapidRinse.
