Insulating your hot end's block has several potential benefits:

  • Reduce the nozzle temperature drop that occurs when the printer's fans first turn on

  • Reduce curling of thin features that can result from downward-radiated heat

  • Save time between operations by slowing hot end cooling after the extruder shuts off

Use of the insulator is completely optional - the ZT-HE works great without it - but if you want a little bit of extra peace of mind, it doesn't hurt!

Our insulators are made of a flexible, asbestos-free alumina-oxide ceramic material, 3mm thick (twice as thick and twice as effective as other block insulation currently on the market) and rated for 1200ºC with a k-factor of 0.48, custom die-cut for a perfect fit on the ZT-HE.

The insulator kit consists of five insulators and two high-temperature silicone o-rings. The o-rings are rated for operation to 240º (the temperature on the exterior of the insulation sits around 205º). Please make sure that the o-rings do not contact any metal surfaces.
